Running! Half Marathon #2!

Beautiful Fall Days!

We've finally gotten cold enough to lose leaves off of trees. This gives Doug a great excuse to be outside working with his trusty companion.

Birthday Boy!

Nathan turned 14 on November 29, 2008. We had a dinner of pizza - Nate had his own large pizza and shared a cake. I think his favorite gift was cash. It's hard to believe he is 14 - next year is high school!

The boys

First news to report.... Kaleb was accepted into a national choir and will be traveling to Washington DC in the spring! Way to go!

Nathan had a choir festival that he had to attend this weekend. He had to dress like the man he is becoming. He sure enjoys looking sharp - reminds me of his dad! Check out the shoes!

Sam is in 5th grade.... he is getting so grown up! Very handsome and funny!

Sunday Brunch!

Sam got up early on Sunday morning and made our family a yummy Sunday brunch. He had a menu planned and did everything all by himself! The menu included: pumpkin muffins with white chocolate chips, bacon, fried eggs, pancakes with his signature secret ingredient, and hot chocolate. It was yummy!

Fall Trip to Estes

I went on a much needed girl's weekend only trip. It was relaxing and fun to just hang out and be with a good friend! Karen picked me up in Denver on Thursday evening and we spent the night in Loveland. After a morning of hitting a couple of shops in the outlet mall, we made our way up the highway to Estes. We saw Big Horn sheep and beautiful fall folliage.

Once we got to Estes, we spent the day walking around and visiting the little shops in the downtown area. We had a great lunch at a little hole in the wall and then went for a drive around town to see if we could find the elk - which we did!

Then we checked into a beautiful little room with a view of the river and the mountains. We walked to dinner. The next day we went to see the Old Stanley Hotel - of The Shining fame and then up into Rocky Mountain National Park. It was gorgeous and COLD! We headed into Cheyenne and I got to spend some time at the Big House on the Prairie with Austin and Morgan.

HAPPY FALL!

Happy Fall!

I can't believe it is the middle of October already! Time flies when you go back to work, I guess!
We have this week off for Fall Break. It is well deserved. The boys are still snuggled in their beds this morning - it's 8:30! I'm enjoying a cup of coffee and the peace and quiet of my home. It has finally cooled off, at least in the mornings, so I can break out a sweatshirt or two.
Doug has been busy at work. He is putting in lots of extra hours and sweat to get profits up. The economy is hitting everyone's pocket books hard. Hopefully, it will start looking up again and we'll start seeing more of him at home. He is still working hard on his MBA. He is on the tail end of it. The finish line looks like it will be late May. His grades are looking great (not as good as mine, but almost!). He is finishing up a business statistics class right now. Toughie!
Nathan is enjoying his last year of middle school so far. He had a teacher who died last month in a car accident. It was very sad, as he was one of those teachers who touched the lives of many students with important life lessons. Nathan is involved in choir this semester and seems to enjoy it. He has the deepest voice of all the boys in the choir, so he feels pretty special. He is in all honors classes and so far is keeping up his grades in the A range. He just measured in at 5 ft 7.5 inches (can't forget that half inch) and a size 11 shoe. Big boy, my Nate!
Sam is having a blast in 5th grade. I get to be his teacher for one subject -now that is interesting. I see now why he has trouble in school - Hello? Anybody there? Well, maybe that is just because I am mom and he has learned very well how to tune me out! He has made a great new friend. They spend a lot of time together being little inventors and tormenting both of their older brothers. Sam is still involved in cooking classes and LOVES it! He has become a master breakfast maker and always has plans for what he wants to cook up next. His newest life long goal is to be the gourmet chef in a restaurant in South Pass City, Wyoming (population about 10 people?). He wanted to know if there was a Red Lobster there that he could start out as the waiter in and work his way up. Now that is some dream!
Kaleb is busy at school and work and debate is starting soon. He is working at the Flying J as a host and sometimes as a server. He seems to enjoy it, at least the paycheck part of it! He is taking French and beginning guitar. And so far, he is passing his chemistry class - whew!
I guess that is about it from our house. I hope you all are enjoying your fall weather that will soon be winter!
Love, Tanya

Sam Turns 10!

We had a fun evening celebrating Sam's birthday with good friends and relatives. Patty and Nicole, Sylvia and Jules, Sandy, Lupe, our little mexican Tucson Nana, and Sandy's dad all came over for a BBQ. Sam cooked up some great little fruit tarts for his birthday dessert. They were yummy! After eating, we all played Wii.... great fun. Lots of laughter!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the Duke and Liberace also came to celebrate with us!

Vacation

We had a great vacation last week! The boys flew to Wyoming a week before our scheduled vacation time to spend time with grandma, grandpa and Kaleb. Sam was nervous because he couldn't remember flying before. But they did well. He took pictures with his disposable camera, so when they are developed I'll share!
Doug and I drove up to RS on a Sat. Of course we split the trip and did it in two days stopping in Mesquite, NV. Once we hit Utah, I was in awe of the greenery. Always makes me want to move out of this desert.
We had a great visit. Got to see lots of family. I miss being close to family dropping in and visiting and just hanging out chatting. Mom was a strong gal - hanging with her shingles and all of us at her house. Glad she has learned to relax and let others take over.

Thank goodness for Kim - she took over the cooking duties and boy is she a great cook! She fixed us her favorite BBQ shrimp, which isn't BBQ'd and it doesn't have BBQ sauce in it. I also got a beautiful drawing that Kim had done for her drawing naked people class. The boys think it is disturbing, but I am going to frame it and hang it in my bedroom - it's art after all!

We celebrated Ray's birthday over at my mom's with a cake from Cold Stone Creamery - you know RS is growing if they have stores like that now! He enjoyed it, I think. He got his first Harley Davidson shirt, which I am sure he will look great in while riding his 4-wheeler all over South Pass City.

Doug, Ray, and Mup took Sam out golfing. It was Sam's first official try out on the course. He has only gone to hit balls on the driving range. He really like golfing, but says he really isn't any good. I asked him if he hit a hole in one. That was a stupid question. I was informed that the holes are like 200 to 500 yards away and he can only hit like 50 yards at a time. I think that meant that he did double or triple work compared to his grandpa's and dad. Next time he would like to play 18 holes but rent a cart for the whole thing. He loves to try new things.

Aubrey did some entertaining, singing a few of her competition songs. She is sure a great singer. Very confident and presents herself well. She is really good. It's no wonder she won the title Miss Pre-Teen Wyoming.
The kids all had a great time playing together. Mom bought a little pool for the yard. Aubrey, Addison, Ashton, Nathan, Sam, Solveig and Bailey had a great time splashing and chasing each other around the pool. We were lucky and got to bring it home with us to Tucson.Solveig was a big help when we took the pool down - she helped more than any other kiddo and used her strong muscles to lift the pool to drain it. She is too cute!

We also got to meet Kim's new puppies - again, TOO CUTE! Miley and Zoey are little luv bugs. I think Sam was contemplating hiding one in his bag to bring back to Tucson (although I am sure our dogs would eat them in one gulp!).

Kim brought her camera and we took the kids up to the old hospital and took their pictures together. It is amazing that they are all so big. I just kept looking at them all sitting there wondering where the time went and how the heck did we get old enough to have such a motley crew? Wow! I have to admit, they are sure all good looking kids. We did good in the reproduction vein.
